October
Halloween was always my favorite holiday, except for the year my mother made me dress up as Shirley Temple. She curled my hair, tied it up with a big pink bow, and put me in a short pink dress with patent leather shoes. I wanted to be a witch instead.
As a little girl, I was fascinated by spells and the idea that, with the wave of a wand, something could disappear or change into something entirely different. I was drawn to black cats, cauldrons filled with potions, and warm, bubbly things to drink.
Oddly, it all felt familiar to me.
Today, older and wiser, I understand the connection.
Spells became words that carried intention and brought dreams into being. Wands became wooden spoons, stirring love into every recipe. Cauldrons became cast-iron pots in which I created magickal, nourishing food. And those warm, bubbling potions became hot apple cider, spiced with cinnamon for protection, warmth, and prosperity.
Being a witch isn’t about having a green face, a mole on your nose, or long, pointed fingers. A witch is a healer, an intuitive, and an alchemist. She transforms herbs and food into medicine. She tends to and mends broken hearts. She listens with presence.
She loves Mother Earth and feels the magick within all living things. She honors the seasons, the moon, flows with their rhythms, and embraces their archetypes. She sees the world through the lens of an open mind and an open heart.
She listens to the plants, the birds, and the animals. She remains open to messages from them and from the Universe. She carries crystals in her pockets and works with candles and cards for guidance, uses ritual to create balance and meaning.
Being a witch isn’t something that exists only on a movie screen. It is ancient, intuitive, and sacred.
Whether you’re new or seasoned to this world of spirituality, I am honored you’re here and am excited to walk this path with you.
In the words of beloved Aunt Jet, “there’s a little witch in all of us.”
